It hardly counts as a hundred posts if the last few posts are "let's hurry up and make it to 100 posts!"
My questionis: What's in the water in Sacramento?

Please, for mercy's sake, stop toying with this thread! That applies to me too! This is some dangerous shit were into here. It may not seem too bad on this page, but back there, things have been said: bad things, and if we hang around too long...oh, will I never be set free? The torment!

TRUE OR FALSE:
The United States of America is owned, controlled, and operated by the oil industry.
George W. Bush did not receive the majority of the votes in the elction of 2000.
Corporate ownership of the news media results in de facto censorship and a restricted market.
True/false statments are useful.

OK, let's all shake hands and forgive & forget.
Sorry if I offended anyone, and lightfeet, I really had no idea you were Enlish until you specifically mentioned it.
I figured all the references to Rush Limgaugh meant you were American.
I mean, i had no idea that anyone out of the country knew who he was!
Do they actually broadcast him over there?
Why would someone in England care about what he's talking about?
Do you get Howard Stern too? (Har har)
Anyway, yeah, let's get back to film, unless someone's going to lob more insults my way!
Just for the record, for those of you who think I'm a Brownshirter;
1. I'm against the war on Iraq.
Mind you, I think we should have gone in and occupied when we fought the first war, so I'm not against doing that in theory, just the timing.
At the time I criticized our policy of "let's drop bombs, blow a bunch of stuff up, and go home" like we seem to like to do, when it clearly accomplishes nothing to fix any long-term problems, as should be the case if a country is to use their military.
I think if you bother to go to war, then you go all the way and occupy, and fly the flag, tell them "hey, this is our real estate now, we could put a new Disneyland here if we wanted to, but we're not. We're going to set you up a new government, of your own people, " etc. just like we did with Japan and Germany after WWII.
If you don't have justification to do that (and we haven't since WWII), then I don't think we should be involved in any of these military excersizes that we call wars....
2. I believe the Bush administration (and especially Donald Rumsfeld) will go down in history as the administration that crossed us over into making the U.S. Constitution a total joke. I also think this would have happened even if Gore had won, just because of forces that exist in the federal government, like the NSA for instance.
It's the typical momentum of government, always marching in the direction of more control over the population they govern, until it gets to the point where they are almost omnipotent.
This stuff that's going on these days with wiretapping, Internet snooping and profiling, etc., makes George Orwell look like an optimist.
And don't forget Clinton and Gore were the ones who came up with the V-chip idea, remember?
(This was a chip that was to go into every phone, modem, computer, and fax machine, that would encode the information being transmitted, to a code that only the government could decode. Of course, Clinton promised that they would never, ever use it to snoop on ordinary citizens. RIGHT!) Thank God this one went down in flames, but only because all the major manufacturers said it would kill their overseas business.
Our rights are all being considered irelevant, because "everything is different now with terrorism", etc.
It's over, folks. Even my fellow citizens have mostly given up. which is scary.
So there.
I'm not a right wing wacko over-patriotic zealot.
I love my country, but I fear my government.

A minor correction.

The V-chip is a device, required by FCC regulations, that allows the consumer to bock programming to a television. The device got its name because it grew out of concerns for depictions of violence on television. (See http://www.fcc.gov/vchip/ for more info.)
Clipper was developed by the NSA as a method of providing "back door" access to devices that incorporate encryption technology (like computers, cel phones, etc).
More on Clipper: http://www.epic.org/crypto/clipper/
What Matt is absolutely correct about is that Clinton and Gore pushed both these devices. Corporations objected and the idea was shelved. Though from the looks of Patriot Act 2, such ideas and devices are likely due a rebirth.

MATT,
Nice post. I especially agree with your point two. It seems the only people seeing the danger of BIG BROTHER are either from the left or right of center.
While some of my post might seem to the left of center I agree with the right on keeping our laws based on our Constitution. I feel some of our countries political differences are in place to keep us from coming together as a nation, divide and conquer. And let the carrier politicians on both sides of the isle do what they do best. Keep the statues que. In the mean time only the interest of the corporations are being served by both parties.
This is not a call for socialism, but for laws to protect the country people from corporate abuse.
But the de vision between the rich and the poor or rich and middle class is growing. the gap between the rich and the poor is growing. Statistics from a number of studies have found a correlation between unemployment and increased crime, suicide and drug and alcohol and domestic abuse.
The Pro Global climate in this county has also hurt small and medium size companies in favor of the largest Corporations. Just look at main street in most medium size American cities.
I once owned a small radio station but I could not complete with the larger companies that owned 4 to 6 stations in a signal market. With the chance in the communications act of 1996 fewer and fewer broadcast facilities are owned by owner-operators or small corporations.
Think of it, all the news you get comes from the people who have the most to gain by keeping us divided. Even NPR get's its major funding from the major corporations.
GUN CONTROL, ABORTION WELFARE, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ARE ALL IMPORTANT ISSUES, BUT NOT ONES WE WILL EASILY COME TOGETHER ON AS A NATION.
But it's business as usual doing the bidding for the firms who keep the politicians in office

Who in the hell is Rush Limbaugh? I never even heard of, let alone posted about him.
